My husband brought home an old sewing machine from the 1940’s it still works great and came built in with the sewing table and everything. It smells horribly like smoke, like someone has been smoking around it for many years how do I clean it up would good old pledge work or is that not safe enough?

Scrub it with something like Murphy’s oil soap and, if you can, put it outside to air. If there’s a breeze it may help blow away some of the foul air inside the machine. Just make certain you protect it from the elements. Unfortunately, you can’t tinker with it too much because you risk tainting the working parts.
