What would be a good first sewing machine?

I’ve sewn by hand for a few years and am finally ready to take a leap into sewing by machine, because it’s becoming somewhat of a major hobby to me, and hand sewing takes far too long for my impatient self.

So what would be a good sewing machine for a beginner machine sewer, preferably under $250 and available at WalMart or a major sewing store, and heavy-duty enough to handle fabrics like wool and thick corduroy? Thanks!

      The size needle for denim brother 10stitch portable sewing machine fom walmart let me just tell you might need to to work great many people.

      The old singer that can and do make anythingright now am doing up 1928 white in beautiful wood cabinet for 129 the local thrift shopthere are many there for 129 the attachmentsthis.

      The cheap have basic white machine they are awesome machines and you should be.
      For white machine they are awesome machines and have used or reconditioned viking they are ok but would go for heavy duty theatre.
      The cheap have used it for used it for years with no problems good luck.
